I don’t know how to use my Cuisinart coffee maker?

My parents just gave me a Cuisinart coffee maker, but I am unsure how to use it. When I open the lid on top, inside is a basket with a handle. Do I have the right to make coffee or do I have to use a filter and placing the filter in this basket? When I had put the full bag of coffee in the basket, none of the coffee into the water and only water hervida.El DCC-450 model is the way

all i can think of is that it is a factory mistake. it cant be that hard to work a Coffey machine
